Protecting fundamental rights is at the core of what we do at Arthur J Downey Solicitors & Co.
Our human rights law team is committed to defending individuals and groups whose rights have been violated. From discrimination and unjust treatment to issues of freedom of speech and assembly, we provide expert legal guidance and advocacy.
We are vastly experienced in Judicial Review and Inquests and have represented individuals and groups in numerous high profile matters.
Together, we’ll work to uphold your dignity and pursue justice.
What Are Your Remedies?
If you believe your human rights have been violated, Arthur J Downey & Co Solicitors can guide you through the process. You should contact us as soon as possible as there are strict time limits which must be met:
Initial Consultation and Assessment: Our initial consultation allows us to understand the details of your situation. We’ll gather information about the alleged violation and its impact on you. Following the consultation, our team will assess the merits of your potential claim.
Building Your Case: We’ll work with you to gather evidence supporting your case. This may include witness statements, official documents, medical records, or other relevant materials. Once the evidence is compiled, we’ll contact the relevant authority to notify them and pursue appropriate action.
Representation: Your case may proceed to a Judicial Review or in some cases can be in the form of a Public Inquest. We will engage Barristers to act on your behalf and throughout the legal proceedings, our dedicated Human Rights team will provide ongoing support.
Understanding Your Human Rights
The Human Rights Act of 1998 enshrines fundamental rights and freedoms for everyone in the UK. These rights encompass a wide range of areas, including:
- Right to life
- Freedom from torture and inhuman or degrading treatment
- Right to liberty and security
- Right to a fair trial
- Right to respect for private and family life
- Freedom of expression
Public bodies like the police, councils, schools, and local authorities all have a legal obligation to uphold these rights. If you believe a public body has infringed upon your human rights, Arthur J Downey & Co Solicitors can advise you on your legal options.
